Conference – “Diaspora’s active participation in state-building processes”

On December 16, within the framework of Georgia’s Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, a conference – “Diaspora’s active participation in state-building processes” was held in Tbilisi. The conference, hosted by the Parliament of Georgia, was organized by the Parliamentary Network on Diaspora Policies of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. Members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, representatives of legislative authorities, International and non-governmental organizations and independent experts from Council of Europe’s member and other states attended the conference.

The President of Georgia, H.E. Salome Zourabichvili, Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, H.E. Archil Talakvadze and the Deputy Chairman of the Sub-Committee on Diaspora, Mr. Paulo Pisco, addressed the participants of the event.

The conference was conducted in three panels: 1. Georgian example of the engagement of diaspora in democratic state-building; 2. Mechanisms for diasporas’ involvement in state-building; 3. Role of diasporas in the creation of a positive image of the country of origin.
