The Danish Minister of Justice, Søren Pape Poulsen, will from 11 to 13 April 2018, as part of the Danish Chairmanship of the Council of Europe, be hosting a High-Level Conference titled: “Continued Reform of the European Human Rights Convention System – Better Balance, Improved Protection”.

The goal of the Conference will be to adopt a Copenhagen Declaration, which follows up on previous political declarations adopted in Interlaken, Izmir, Brighton and Brussels.

Participants include delegations from all 47 Members States, including ministers from many European countries, as well as other key actors, such as the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Thorbjørn Jagland, the President of the European Court of Human Rights, Guido Raimondi and the President of the Parliamentary Assembly, Michele Nicoletti.

Mr. Poulsen says:

Denmark has placed reform of the Convention system at the centre of our Chairmanship. We have done so, because we are committed to improve the Convention system and take the necessary steps to ensure its continued relevance and effective functioning.

In Copenhagen, we hope to reach agreement among all 47 Member States on a substantial package of reforms that will ensure a future Convention system that is both effective, focused and balanced for the good of all Europeans.
