The first report on how European states are protecting children against sexual abuse in the circle of trust was published today (see also the Addendum to the report for information on individual countries).

Council of Europe Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland said: “All states should implement the recommendations of this report and improve their criminal legislation and judicial procedures. It is crucial there are no gaps in the protection of children from this horrific crime.” (more...)

The report covers 26 European countries (*) and was prepared by an expert Lanzarote Committee bringing together all countries that have ratified the Council of Europe’s Convention on Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse (Lanzarote Convention).
