The president of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Peter Maurer, visited the Council of Europe on Tuesday 2 December. Following a meeting at the European Court of Human Rights, Mr Maurer met with Secretary General Jagland. Mr Jagland welcomed the visit as a “valuable exchange of views and experience”. He commended the International Red Cross for its humanitarian assistance world-wide and particularly in Europe. In this context, the Secretary General and Mr Maurer discussed the situation of refugees and internally displaced persons arising from the crisis in Ukraine. They agreed to intensify co-operation between the ICRC and the Council of Europe in the future.
