07.11.2011 - Committee of Ministers chairmanship transferred today from Ukraine to the United Kingdom. The meeting of the Ministers' Deputies today reviewed the Ukrainian chairmanship and looked at United Kingdom priorities for the coming six months. Back 21.06.2011 - Integration with Europe remains an absolute priority for Ukraine

In his third address to the Assembly, President Viktor Yanukovych of Ukraine recalled the importantance for the unity of Ukrainian society to pursue European integration while strengthening relations with neighbouring countries, especially Russia.

Ukraine currently holds the Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, and the President recognised his special responsibility for furthering institutional and political reform of the Organisation, and increasing the effectiveness of the European Court of Human Rights.

The Council of Europe, he said, leads the way in ensuring democratic stability on the continent and in supporting non-member countries in that regard too, thanks in particular to the expertise of the Venice Commission.

Enumerating the complex reforms underway in Ukraine over the past year, President Yanukovych pointed to constitutional and judicial reforms, the fight against corruption, setting up a system of public information, and the consolidation of civil society among his policy priorities.
