The 2nd International Conference on General Aviation

The 2nd International Conference on General Aviation organised by the Pompidou Group – Council of Europe took place on 17 – 18 October 2018 in Marrakech, Morocco.

The overall aim of this 2-day global event was to reduce illegal trafficking and to prevent the abuse of non-commercial flights, ULM, private jets, helicopters and drones slipping into countries, landing on secondary airports and occasional platforms to smuggle drugs, illegal immigrants, and guns through General Aviation worldwide.

Experts in the field of General Aviation from over 30 different countries and ten international organisations had an interactive exchange of information in order to facilitate an increase of knowledge through risk assessment, awareness raising, exchange of information, sharing of best practice, networking and multidisciplinary cooperation. This second Pompidou Group international conference was based on the fact that drug trafficking by General Aviation is a complex and underestimated issue due to insufficient control of airfields and passengers linked to the existence of numerous airfields and improvised landing areas which would entail further international cooperation.
