As a follow up to its decision on 16 March to exclude the Russian Federation from the Council of Europe, the Committee of Ministers held an extraordinary meeting on 22 and 23 March 2022 to discuss the legal and financial consequences of the cessation of Russia's membership in the Council of Europe.

It adopted a wide ranging Resolution which contains, inter alia, the decision to put an end to Russia's membership in several partial agreements of the Council of Europe, including the Pompidou Group.

As a consequence, the number of Pompidou Group member states decreases to 41 as of 23 March 2022.
