2nd Pompidou Group Symposium on ‘Evolution of cannabis policies: experiences and lessons learned'

This event, organised in hybrid format, provided an opportunity for a global overview of current cannabis-related regulations and policies both for medical and non-medical use in different countries worldwide.

The symposium gathered more than 150 participants from Pompidou Group member States, the Mediterranean region and the Americas. Initial results, effects and unintended consequences of alternative cannabis regulations underway were examined from the perspective of national experiences as well as the perspective of the leading international organisations, notably the European Monitoring Centre of Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Narcotics Control Board (INCB).

The symposium marked the closing celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Pompidou Group. A rich programme of the anniversary has taken place throughout 2021, including the adoption of a revised statute for the Group which extended its mandate to other forms of addiction beyond the field of illicit drugs.
