North-South Centre

The European Centre for Global Interdependence and Solidarity of the Council of Europe – more commonly known as the “North-South Centre”  – was set up in Lisbon with the purpose to spread the universal values upheld by the Council of Europe  – human rights, democracy and the rule of law - beyond the European continent.

Empowerment of Women

The North-South Process for the Empowerment of Women: from awareness to action

The year 2018 marks the beginning of a new phase for the North-South Process for the Empowerment of Women (NSPEW) at the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe. While the former cycle contributed to reinforcing the mutual agreement and raised awareness of the need to improve and protect women’s rights in the Euro-Mediterranean region, as from 2018, the North-South Centre will count on different partners and stakeholders to respond to a major concern: how to move from awareness to action? CIDDEF: building bridges between civil society and public institutions since 2002

CIDDEF is an information and documentation centre on children and women’s rights created the 9th May 2002 in Algeria. This space became the focal point for human rights activists as well as for professionals (students and researchers) on children and women’s issues. Since 2015, it was integrated into the Foundation for Equality. The organisation has a database of more than 6’000 documents on feminine condition and children’s rights available on CIDDEF website. To achieve its objectives, namely, to inform, popularise and raise awareness, study-sessions are organised and psychological and juridical service support was set up. More
