Exchange of views at the 37th meeting of the Joint Council on Youth of the Council of Europe

On 17th October the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe takes part in an exchange of views in Strasbourg with the representatives of the Joint Council on Youth. The meeting brings together representatives of ministries or bodies responsible for youth matters from the 50 States parties to the European Cultural Convention as well as the 30 representatives from youth NGOs and networks in Europe which provide opinions and input on all youth sector activities to the Council of Europe.

In line with the Council of Europe’s youth priorities for 2018-2019, and in particular with the priority related to “peaceful and inclusive societies”, the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe, observer to these meetings, took the opportunity to present the main aspects of its multilateral work in the fields of youth cooperation and global education in Europe and in the Southern Mediterranean, as well as to introduce the main lines of the future programme in 2018-2019.

The North-South Centre’s participation at the Joint Council on Youth of the Council of Europe was especially significant after the recent integration of the enlarged partial agreement in the Directorate of Democratic Citizenship and Participation.

Key instrument of the external dimension of the Council of Europe, the North-South Centre (NSC) serves as a vector for transmitting its values, standards, and tools beyond the European continent through political dialogue, networking, and the implementation of cooperation projects.
As an Enlarged Partial Agreement of the Council of Europe, it brings together several European and African countries to exchange ideas and take action on shared issues.
