New Global Education e-learning course for all!

Would you like to know more about the concept of Global Education and its methodologies?

The North-South Centre of the Council of Europe is pleased to announce a new online self-eLearning course for all!

Global Education is a pedagogical approach which privileges a better understanding of world issues and makes the connections between local and global realities. Through a learner centred approach, fostering multiple perspectives and the deconstruction of stereotypes, triggering empathy and openness to other cultures, beliefs, worldviews, and practices, global education inspires critical awareness of global challenges. It invites for more engagement for sustainable lifestyles and to take action towards fairer societies and sustainable economic patterns.

This course offers presentations, interactive information, videos, podcasts, reflective exercises and self-learning assessment tools divided into four thematic modules providing the knowledge and competences needed to best implement Global Education and inspire people to become active agents of global change!

Module 1 - Initial introduction to Global Education in meaning and value.

Module 2 - Global Education in Practice.

Module 3 - The Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture.

Module 4 - Learning through Global Education in different contexts.

Each module is estimated to be completed in 60 minutes. The finalisation of the four modules offers a certificate delivered by the Council of Europe.

With thirty years of experience in the Global Education sector, and in constant collaboration with policy makers, educators and NGOs, the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe offers pedagogical support to formal and non-formal educators and works to develop policies integrating better Global Education competences in school curricula and other educational settings outside of schools.

This project is supported by Ilegend: a Joint programme of the European Union and the Council of Europe: co-funded by the European Union in the Framework of DEAR Programme and the Council of Europe.

Global education is education that opens people’s eyes and minds to the realities of the globalised world and awakens them to bring about a world of greater justice, equity and Human Rights for all.

The Maastricht Declaration, 2002.

Global education is a pedagogical approach that fosters multiple perspectives and the deconstruction of stereotypes and builds on a learner centred approach to foster critical awareness of global challenges and engagement for sustainable lifestyles.

Global Education competences build on development education, human rights education, education for sustainability, education for peace and conflict prevention and intercultural education, all being the global dimension of education for citizenship.

The North-South Centre’s work for the development of global education started in 1991 with pioneer regional multistakeholder seminars on the issue. They led to the drafting of the Global Education Charter in 1997, which became its reference background document, later consolidated by the recommendations from European global education multistakeholder congresses and regional seminars, as well as a capacity building scheme for formal and non-formal educators.

Ever since, the North-South Centre has been contributing to global education advocacy and pedagogical support through a number of initiatives, at institutional and education levels.
