North-South Prize 2017 to Kristiina Kumpula and Abbas Gullet

Kristina Kumpula and Abbas Gullet, Secretary General of the Finnish and the Kenyan Red Cross Societies received today the North-South Prize of the Council of Europe at the Portuguese Parliament. The jury of the North-South prize awarded the two laureates in recognition of their humanitarian work and global solidarity.

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, President of the Portuguese Republic, handed the Prize to both laureates during the ceremony which counted with the presence of the Deputy Secretary-General of the Council of Europe, Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni and the Chair of the Executive Committee of the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe.

The North-South Centre of the Council of Europe distinguishes each year two personalities, one from the ‘North’, the other from the ‘South’, who have excelled in their commitment to human rights, democracy and rule of law, contributing to the north-south dialogue, fostering solidarity, promoting interdependence and creating partnerships.
