Mr. José Rui Velez Caroço is the new executive director of the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe. The Portuguese diplomat takes office today after serving five years as the Consul general of Portugal in Boston (USA). Mr Caroço has served as a Portuguese diplomat for over 27 years, working in Europe, Africa and the Americas acquiring a large experience both in bilateral and multilateral international affairs.

The new executive director expressed his gratitude to Ambassador António Gamito for the work he accomplished during the last two years and pledged to focus on innovation and strong partnerships to accomplish the mission of the North-South Centre.
