Back "Be an inspiration" - call for best practices

On the occasion of the International Women's Day, the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe launches a call for best practices in the protection, integration and/or reception of migrant, asylum-seeking and refugee women and/or girls.  Any individual, institution or organisation, by submitting its best practice, may be selected and invited to contribute to share tested solutions or to transfer knowledge that could be applied in the implementation of solutions for the challenges faced by migrant, refugee and asylum seeking women and girls.

The rights of migrant, refugee and asylum-seeking women and girls will be at the core of the next North-South Process for the Empowerment of Women Conference to be organised in Greece in July 2018. As a follow-up of the Lisbon Forum 2016 roundtable on the same topic, the Conference will explore and present practices and mechanisms which demonstrated success in the protection and integration of displaced girls and women.

New Council of Europe Gender Equality Strategy 2018-2023

On the eve of the International Women’s Day 2018, the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers adopted the new Council of Europe Gender Equality Strategy 2018-2023. The Strategy renews the Council of Europe commitment to address current and emerging challenges and remove barriers towards achieving substantive and full gender equality both in the member States and within the organisation.  The mission of the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe for upcoming years is directly in line with this strategy within its empowerment of women programme in the European and Southern Mediterranean region and beyond in responding to its objectives related to gender stereotypes and sexism; violence against women and domestic violence; access of women to justice; balanced participation of women and men in political and public decision-making; gender mainstreaming and its new crucial objective to protect the rights of migrant, refugee and asylum-seeking women and girls at a multilevel level and through a bottom-up approach.
