5th Mediterranean University on Youth and Global Citizenship (MedUni) training courses

The North-South Centre (NSC) of the Council of Europe is organising two multilateral capacity building activities for young people in the framework of the 5th University on Youth and Global Citizenship (MedUni): the 6th Global Education and Youth Training Course for Youth Multipliers and the 4th Training Course on Structured Participation in Democratic Processes (SPDP).

The two courses will take place between the 3rd and the 8th of July at the Centre de vacances et de loisirs pour enfants du Ministère Tunisien pour les Femmes, la Famille et les Enfants, in Hammamet (Tunisia).

Around 800 young people showed interest in participating in one of the two training courses. Out of the 250 eligible applications a total of 40 youngsters coming from Europe and the Southern Mediterranean will benefit from this week of peer-learning and youth cooperation in the Euro-Mediterranean region.

The Global Education and Youth Training Course for Youth Multipliers aims to empower representatives of youth organisations and youth initiatives to further support the practice of Global Development Education based on the NSC’s Global Education methodology, contributing to develop a better understanding of intercultural education, intercultural learning and intercultural competences. This activity is part of the iLegend project: Intercultural Learning Exchange through Global Education, Networking and Dialogue co-funded by the Council of Europe and the Civil Society and Local Authorities Programme of the European Union.

On the other hand, the Training Course on SPDP aims to empower representatives of youth organisations to further support the development of democratic citizenship, facilitating youth participation in decision and policy making and engaging young people and youth organisations in the intra and inter-regional co-operation. The activity targets young key multipliers, highly involved in a structure which deals directly with participation and democratic processes at a local, regional, national or international level. The content will focus on skills and useful tools on this topic and on creating space for a constructive intercultural dialogue based on the experience of the participants and of the other stakeholders.

The MedUni is an activity organised by the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe in co-operation with l’Observatoire National de la Jeunesse (ONJ), Tunisia, and in partnership with other international youth-led and youth serving organisations from Europe and the Southern Mediterranean. Since 2013, the MedUni gathers representatives of youth organisations and youth movements to discuss, train and be trained around issues of democratic participation and global citizenship.
