On 26-27 July, the Council of Europe and the European Union completed another set of trainings for prosecutors on application of pretrial measures.

As a result of cascade trainings more than 60 prosecutors increased knowledge on application of pre-trial measures in line with the case-law of the European Court of Human Rights. Focus was made on requirements for detention as a measure of last resort and bail. Moreover, trainer prosecutors informed their peers about findings of internal monitoring and delivered respective recommendations for further improvement in applying pre-trial measures.

It is planned to involve all prosecutors in the sessions to align the national practice of application of pre-trial detention with the ECHR standards.

This training was organised in the framework of the project "Supporting the criminal justice reforms - tackling criminal aspects of the judicial reforms in Georgia", funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe in their Partnership for Good Governance II.
