Back Inclusive dialogue and discussion with representatives of the judiciary in Turkey on development of practical Guides related to procedural safeguards in criminal proceedings

On 23 and 24 September 2021 a working group meeting on the Guide on Reasonable Suspicion; Grounds for Detention and Alternative Measures and the Guide on Procedural Safeguards in Pre-Trial Detention Proceedings was organised in a hybrid meeting format.

Representatives of the Court of Appeals, Constitutional Court and Ministry of Justice, Directorate General of Criminal Affairs of Turkey took part in a fruitful discussion and exchange of suggestions on the draft Guides prepared by Council of Europe experts. In addition, the information campaign activities comprising of development of brochures and other visibility tools were discussed to enable better understanding of the criminal justice and rights of suspects, victims and Turkish citizens.

Joint and inclusive dialogue with representatives of the Turkish judiciary and Ministry of Justice will ensure better effectiveness and sustainability of the developed outputs and results achieved.

This hybrid meeting was organised under the EU/CoE Joint Project “Strengthening the Criminal Justice System and the Capacity of Justice Professionals on Prevention of the European Convention on Human Rights Violations in Turkey”.
