The network of gender equality focal points of the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) underwent a training on “Prohibition of Discrimination in the light of Article 14 and Protocol 12 of the European Convention on Human Rights” delivered by the CoE project “Supporting institutions to Combat Ill-Treatment in Ukraine”. The network comprises one focal point per each SBI territorial department and central office.

Participants had a chance to jointly elaborate on the following themes: notion of gender and myths, principles of equal rights and opportunities for men and women, key manifestations of inequality, gender aspects within SBI professional environment, prohibition of discrimination and standards elaborated by the case law of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), identification of gender-sensitive situations, gender-sensitive cases: ECtHR case-law and national context, ways of applying gender-sensitive approaches in the work of SBI.

Pre- and post-training evaluation demonstrated that participants improved their level of knowledge of respective standards and changed attitudes towards manifestation of gender inequality in Ukraine.
