As part of the joint EU/Council of Europe project “Support for the implementation of judicial reform in Serbia”, the Working Group on drafting the Rulebook on administration in public prosecution offices met on 22-24 March 2023. The 12-member group includes Ministry of Justice assistant ministers, prosecutors, and representatives from the Government's Secretariat for Legislation. The process is observed by one representative of the Lawyers’ Committee for Human Rights YUCOM, since this non-governmental organisation chairs the Working Group for Chapter 23 of the National Convention on the EU.

The focus of the meeting was to draft the Rulebook’s provisions on the daily operations of public prosecution offices, covering issues such as case handling, communication with the public, and financial and administrative tasks. Discussions centred on promoting efficiency, transparency, and accountability within the offices.

Owing to the efforts of the Working Group and the support of the project, a comprehensive Rulebook is expected to significantly improve the functioning and performance of the public prosecution offices in Serbia. The project will continue to support the Working Group's efforts to develop new standards for the public prosecution, ultimately contributing to a more efficient and effective judicial system in Serbia
