Harmonisation of court legislation and practice with the standards imposed by the European Court of Human Rights (the Court) is a fundamental precondition for ensuring legal certainty and the overall protection of human rights in the member states.

In this context, the EU-Council of Europe Action “Supporting effective domestic remedies and facilitating the execution of judgments in Albania” is supporting Albanian judiciary in harmonising the national case-law with that of the Court as well as institutional capacities of the State Advocate Office.

To this effect, two lawyers from the State Advocate have been seconded for one month each to the Department for the Execution of Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights. These placement opportunities enhanced the capacities of the State Advocate to monitor the harmonisation of domestic legal regulations with the provisions of the European Convention on Human Rights and the Court case-law, and thus provided additional strength to the protection of human rights in Albania.

The Action “Supporting effective domestic remedies and facilitating the execution of judgments in Albania” is funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe Horizontal Facility programme and implemented by the Council of Europe.
