Back Meeting on Enhancing Cooperation and Awareness on Fight against Financing of Terrorism Among Relevant National Institutions Held

On 31 March 2022, the first Coordination Meeting on Financing of Terrorism was held in Gaziantep in hybrid format with the participation of the representatives of relevant Turkish institutions (Ministry of Justice including the Heads of Departments of Directorate General of Criminal Affairs, Prosecutors, Judges, Turkish National Police, Financial Crimes Investigation Board, Information and Communication Technologies Authority, Union of Turkish Bar Associations, Turkish Penal Law Association, Regional Directorate of Customs and Foreign Trade, Gaziantep Provincial Police Department, Gaziantep Provincial Gendarmerie Command) and national and international consultants of the project.

This activity aimed to improve co-operation among relevant national institutions, through exchange of information, experience and mutual challenges faced in all phases of judicial proceedings with regards to financing of terrorism related offences.

During the 1-day event, participants exchanged on identification of problems, coordination between both public and private institutions, as well as coordination and cooperation among main actors of the phases of investigation and prosecution.

In October 2022, another coordination meeting on this topic will be conducted in Bursa in the scope of the Project. These meetings aim to contribute to the enhanced dialogue between the Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK), the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK), on the one hand and judges, prosecutors, representatives of judicial police dealing with terrorism on the other.

This meeting was organised under the EU/CoE Joint Project “Strengthening the Criminal Justice System and the Capacity of Justice Professionals on Prevention of the European Convention on Human Rights Violations in Turkey”.
