Back Dialogue among judiciary on securing procedural safeguards in criminal proceedings

On 3 and 4 November 2022, the first Coordination Meeting on Procedural Safeguards was held in Mardin with the participation of 41 representatives of relevant Turkish institutions. It included representative of the of the Ministry of Justice of Türkiye; Directorate General of Criminal Affairs, members of the higher courts, judges, prosecutors, lawyers as well as representatives of the European Court of Human Rights (“the Court”) and national consultants of the project.

This meeting was an open platform for exchanges among participants, identifying problems and proposing solutions in relation to admissibility of evidence and access to file. Participants also had opportunity to hear about the outstanding problems identified by the Court as well as well-established case-law of the higher Turkish courts. Similar coordination meetings will be conducted in two different provinces of Türkiye.

 

This meeting was organised under the EU/CoE Joint Project “Strengthening the Criminal Justice System and the Capacity of Justice Professionals on Prevention of the European Convention on Human Rights Violations in Turkey”.
