On 20-21 February 2018, two workshops were organised for the members of the Superior Council of Prosecutors, Boards for prosecutor’s evaluation and prosecutor’s selection and career, in Chisinau, Republic of Moldova. After the adoption of the new Law on Public Prosecution Service in 2016, a new institutional set-up of the prosecutorial self-governing body, the Superior Council of Prosecutors and its three boards, was put in place. The aim of these workshops was to discuss the new regulatory framework on the functioning of the Boards on evaluation and selection and career, their implementation in practice, challenges and lessons learned.

The workshops were moderated by two international experts, chief prosecutors, Ms Catherine Carrie and Mr John Person. During the first day of the workshop, the experts led the discussions on evaluation processes, setting the criteria, conducting interviews and other. On the second day the topics covered referred to the selection of prosecutors, promotion and relevant criteria to ensure transparent and objective processes.

The workshops were organised by the Council of Europe project “Support to criminal justice reforms in the Republic of Moldova” financed by the Government of Denmark in cooperation with the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI).

These activities fall within one of the specific objectives of the project “Support to criminal justice reforms in the Republic of Moldova” i.e. To enhance capacity among key stakeholders to ensure the compliance of the criminal justice sector legislation with European standards and to support the institutional reform of the Public Prosecution Service.
