Amongst the main achievements of the Project are the preparation of a comprehensive set of practical short and long-term recommendations for new governance and management structures as well as a detailed action plan to guide the Cypriot authorities throughout the transition period until the establishment of the new Court Service. The Project also produced recommendations for improvement of the internal functioning of the registries, focusing on the efficiency of operational processes and case-management.

The future implementation of the proposed activities developed under the Project is expected to improve the efficiency of the court operations and enhance the resilience of the Cyprus judicial system, critical components necessary for protection of human rights and the rule of law at the national level.

The Project, which constitutes an important milestone within the broader court reform process that has been taking place in Cyprus for the last seven years, represents another noteworthy example of successful cooperation of the Council of Europe and the European Commission’s DG REFORM for improving the efficiency of justice systems within the EU member States.

The closing ceremony took place in Nicosia with the presence of high-level officials including the President and members of the Supreme Court, the Minister of Justice, the General Director of Ministry of Finance and the Director of Reform, members of the Cypriot House of Representatives, representatives of the European Commission and the Council of Europe.

The Project “Enhancing the capacity of the justice system by an effective implementation of the reform recommendations and processes” was funded by the European Union and co-funded and implemented by the Council of Europe.
