On 17 May annual short-term training courses for civil servants on “Implementation of the international constitutional human rights guarantees in Russian law and law-enforcement practice: 25 years of co-operation within the framework of the Council of Europe”. The event is organised jointly by MGIMO European Studies Institute, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, and the Council of Europe.
Rector of MGIMO University Mr.Anatoly Torkunov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Mr.Alexander Grushko, High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Ms.Tatiana Moskalkova, Representative of the Russian Federation at the European Court of Human Rights – Deputy Minister of Justice Mr. Mikhail Galperin participated in the opening ceremony. Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe Mr.Bjørn Berge and the Head of the Council of Europe Programme Office in the Russian Federation Mr.Petr Sich addressed the participants on behalf of the Council of Europe. Director of MGIMO European Studies Institute Ms.Tamara Shashikhina moderated the discussion.
The training courses will continue until 20 May. During the daily working sessions, Russian and international experts will discuss relevant issues, such as teaching of history, human rights in sport, e-justice, cybercrime, artificial intelligence as well as the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to the pandemic, the courses are held in a mixed format - more than half of the participants are connected remotely.
