The Council of Europe Committee of Ministers meets with Moneyval Chair and FATF President

On 9 September the MONEYVAL Chair Ms Elżbieta Franków-Jaśkiewicz and the FATF President Dr Marcus Pleyer held an exchange of views with the Ministers’ Deputies of the Council of Europe. This was the first appearance of an FATF President at the CoE Committee of Ministers.

In their opening remarks Ms Franków-Jaśkiewicz and Dr Pleyer emphasized the successful cooperation between the two organisations, elaborated on the new money laundering and terrorism financing trends (including in the COVID environment), highlighted the current FATF presidency priorities in the broader Council of Europe context, including issues of environmental crime, right-wing terrorism and AML/CFT digitalisation. On this occasion, the MONEYVAL Chair presented the Annual Report for 2019, which was adopted by the Committee. Numerous Council of Europe member delegations expressed their support for the work of MONEYVAL and the FATF, and emphasized the importance of AML/CFT efforts in maintaining rule of law and stable economies.
