Back Romania: visit of the Advisory Committee on the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities

A delegation of the Advisory Committee on the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities will be visiting Cluj, Suceava, Constanţa and Bucharest from 3 to 7 April 2017 to evaluate the progress made in the monitoring of the protection of national minorities in Romania.

The Advisory Committee will hold meetings with representatives of the government as well as civil society and national minorities to discuss the implementation of the Framework Convention with relevant stakeholders.

The delegation includes Mr Neven Anđelić, Advisory Committee member elected in respect of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr Tomáš Hrustič, Advisory Committee member in respect of the Slovak Republic and Ms Edita Žiobiené, Advisory Committee member in respect of Lithuania and Mr Krzysztof Zyman, Administrator in the Secretariat of the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities.

Following the visit, the Advisory Committee will draw up its fourth Opinion on the implementation of the Framework Convention in Romania, containing specific findings and recommendations for follow-up. The fourth Opinion is expected to be adopted in June 2017.

Note: Romania submitted its fourth State Report under the Framework Convention in February 2016.
