Netherlands: visit of the Advisory Committee on the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities

A delegation of the Council of Europe Advisory Committee on the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities is visiting Leeuwarden, Eindhoven and The Hague from 19-22 November 2018 to evaluate progress made in the monitoring of the protection of national minorities in the Netherlands.

This is the third visit made by the Advisory Committee to the Netherlands. The Advisory Committee will have meetings with representatives of the government as well as civil society and national minorities to discuss the implementation of the Framework Convention with relevant stakeholders.

The delegation includes Ms Evis Alimehmeti, Advisory Committee member elected in respect of Albania, Ms Aliona Grossu, Advisory Committee member elected in respect of the Republic of Moldova, Mr Giuseppe Falbo, Advisory Committee member elected in respect of Switzerland, and Ms Agnes von Maravic, Administrator, Secretariat of the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities.

Following this visit, the Advisory Committee will draw up its third opinion on the implementation of the Framework Convention in the Netherlands containing specific findings and recommendations for follow-up. The third opinion is expected to be adopted in March 2019.
