A follow-up meeting concerning the Fifth Opinion on the Republic of Moldova of the Advisory Committee on the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities is being organised today in Chişinău by the Agency for Interethnic Relations of the Government of the Republic of Moldova. The meeting is opened by the Director General of the Agency for Interethnic Relations, Veaceslav Reabcinschii, Falk Lange, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Chişinău, and Elise Cornu, Head of the National Minorities and Minority Languages Division of the Council of Europe.
The meeting is gathering the expert of the Advisory Committee on the Framework Convention elected in respect of the Slovak Republic, Tomáš Hrustič, the national member of the Advisory Committee, Yan Feldman, relevant public authorities at national and local level, the People’s Advocate Office and the Equality Council and representatives of national minorities to discuss the implementation of the recommendations adopted by the Advisory Committee in the last monitoring cycle. Special emphasis is placed on quality education and the study of the state and minority languages, as well as measures promoting knowledge of minority cultures. It also addresses issues related to combat discrimination and effective participation of persons belonging to national minorities in decision-making processes. The Fifth Opinion on the Republic of Moldova of the Advisory Committee is available in English, French, Romanian, Russian and Ukrainian.
