A delegation of the Advisory Committee on the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities is visiting Hungary this week (2–6 December 2024) to evaluate progress made in the protection of national minorities.
This is the sixth visit of the Advisory Committee to Hungary. The delegation is having meetings in Budapest, Pécs, Alsószentmárton and Nyíregyháza with representatives of the government as well as civil society and representatives of national minorities to discuss the implementation of the Framework Convention.
Following this visit, the Advisory Committee will draw up its sixth opinion on the implementation of the Framework Convention in Hungary containing specific findings and recommendations for follow-up. The sixth opinion is expected to be adopted in 2025.
The Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities is one of the most comprehensive treaties designed to protect the rights of persons belonging to national minorities.
