Kurdish journalist, Ali Konar, was born in 1972 and is an elementary school graduate. He was working for the Kurdish daily Azadiya Welat and was responsible to produce reports. On 24 May 2010, Konar was arrested by Turkish authorities on allegations of being a member of an illegal organisation. While in jail, he suffered lungs problems but refused medical examination while handcuffed. He was sent back several times without being seen by a doctor. Konar claimed he had been subjected to psychological pressure and was constantly being kept away from his family. He was sentenced to 7 years and 6 months of imprisonment.
