Dutch Journalist Frederike Geerdink Deported by Turkey
The Turkish authorities deported Frederike Geerdink, the Dutch correspondent based in Diyarbakır (Turkey), to Amsterdam on 10 September 2015 after her two day detention for reporting on a Kurdish group’s protest over violent incidents between the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) militants and the Turkish military. The Turkish authorities are accusing the Dutch reporter of “hindering a military operation and supporting a terrorist organisation”. Frederike Geerdink has been living in Turkey since 2006, based in Diyarbakır since 2012 where she reported on Turkish and Kurdish matters for Dutch and international media. She also wrote for the website Diken.com.tr, critical of the Turkish government.
