Palestinian Journalist Salama Attaallah Assaulted While Covering Muslim Fair in Brussels

On 7 November 2015, Palestinian journalist Salama Attaallah was attacked while covering the Muslim fair activities in Brussels (La foire musulmane de Bruxelles) for TV channel Al Ghad. He was duly accredited, issued with a special "Press Service" pass and allowed to film by the press service of the event and equipped with. While he was filming, the journalist was told by an individual to stop filming women participating in the fair. Attaallah replied that he was not there to film women but to report about the Muslim fair. He was threatened and received a knuckle-fist on his face. His attacker was wearing a pass and claimed to be a representative of the foundation Al Aqsaa. The attack was filmed. Later, Salama Attaallah asked to meet with an official of the event about the incident but the person who turned up dismissed Attaallah’s complaint. The journalist subsequently filed a complaint to the police in Brussels and reported the incident to the European Federation of Journalists.
Resolved
: The journalist Salama Attaallah filed a complaint to the police. On 13 September 2016, the partner organisations of the Platform declared this case to be ”resolved”, concluding it was no longer an active threat to media freedom.
