On 28 March 2018, police raided the headquarter of the pro-Kurdish Özgürlükçü Democrasi (formerly known as Özgür Gündem) newspaper in Istanbul and its printing house arresting at least 32 journalists and media workers. The assets of the newspaper have been confiscated. On 04 April 2018, Özgürlükçü Demokrasi newspaper staff Reyhan Hacıoğlu, Pınar Tarlak, Hicran Ürün and its former staff Mehmet Beyazıt have also been detained without justification. According to Bianet, the ones from Özgürlükçü Demokrasi newspaper who are currently in custody are: grant holder of Özgürlükçü Demokrasi newspaper İhsan Yaşar, managing editor İshak Yasul, newspaper staffs Reyhan Hacıoğlu, Nedim Demirkıran, Mehmet Ali Çelebi , Ramazan Sola, Pınar Tarlak, Hicran Ürün, former media worker Mehmet Beyazıt.
