Parviz Hashimli is the editor of the indepedent news website Moderator and a reporter for the independent newspaper Bizim Yol. On 17 September 2013, agents of the National Security Agency (MNB) arrested Hashimli, allegedly after having found a pistol and several hand grenades in his home. The Baku-based press freedom group Institute for Reporters' Freedom and Safety is convinced that the charges against Hashimli were fabricated. On 15 May 2014, the Baku Court of Grave Crimes sentenced the journalist to eight years in prison.
Resolved
13 Sep 2016: On 17 March 2016, Parviz Hashimli was released following presidential pardon. On 13 September 2016, the partner organisations of the Platform declared this case to be "resolved”, concluding it was no longer an active threat to media freedom.   Presidential pardon
