Dicle News Agency (DİHA) journalist Nuri Akman was arrested on 2 February 2016 in Malatya (Turkey) over “membership of [illegal] organisation ”, after giving testimony over clashes in the town of Kobanê which are the subject of a judicial inquiry. Mr Akman, press correspondent in Van, went to Malatya Public Prosecution with his lawyer to make a statement as his name had been mentioned in the investigation into the arrest of 14 students. He was questioned and charged with “membership of [illegal] organisation” in relation to reports, photos and social media posts he had made about the situation in Kobanê. An arrest warrant was issued against the journalist and he was arrested and transferred to Malatya E Type Prison.

22 Dec 2016: On 12 October 2016, the Istanbul 10th Peace Court decided to release Nuri Akman following an appeal lodged by her lawyer. On 22 December 2016, the partner organisations of the Platform declared this case to be "resolved”, concluding that it was no longer an active threat to media freedom.
