Evrensel Journalist Eda Aktaş Arrested while Covering Women's Protest

Eda Aktaş, a reporter for Turkish newspaper Evrensel, was arrested on 10 January 2016 while reporting on a protest in support of women's rights in the western city of Izmir, the paper reports. Twelve other women who were protesting were also arrested. The Izmir branch of the Journalists' Union of Turkey (TGS, EFJ-IFJ affiliate) has condemned the arrest and has called for the end to "the unlawful, arbitrary detention of our colleague."
: On 10 January 2016, Eda Aktaş was released. On 30 March 2016, the partner organisations of the Platform declared this case to be "resolved”, concluding that it was no longer an active threat to media freedom.
