IMC TV journalists Bekir Güneş and Mehmet Dursun Detained in Edremit
On 10 January 2016, IMC TV reporter Bekir Güneş and his cameraman Mehmet Dursun were detained by local police in Van (Turkey) while covering a clash between Turkish authorities and PKK fighters in the district of Edremit where at least 13 people died. According to their testimony, the two media professionals were interrogated without reason by the local authorities from 12 am to 9.20 pm before being released. The journalists firmly believe that the long interrogation process was in fact a strategy used by the police to prevent them from reporting on the facts in the region.
: On 10 January 2016, Bekir Güneş and Mehmet Dursun were released. On 30 March 2016, the partner organisations of the Platform declared this case to be "resolved”, concluding that it was no longer an active threat to media freedom.
