On 30 April 2020, Diyalog TV, a TV channel established in 2014 in Northern Cyprus, was banned from broadcasting and removed from the Turkish Satellite and Cable TV Operations Company (Türksat) by decision of Turkey’s Radio and Television High Council (RTÜK). Diyalog TV had been broadcasting via Türksat since its establishment and obtained its licence from the Northern Cypriot High Broadcasting Council. As the basis of its decision, RTÜK cited the comments of a guest speaker and of the leader of Liberal Democratic Party during the “Dünyaya Bakış” (World View) programme, which allegedly insulted President Erdoğan. RTÜK said the remarks had damaged the unity and integrity of the Turkish nation and cancelled the satellite subscription for “broadcasting anti-Turkey programmes without permission or license". The editor-in-chief of Diyalog Media Reşat Akar and the President of the Republic of Northern Cyprus Murat Akıncı condemned the decision.
