'Today's Zaman' Journalist Bülent Keneş Arrested

Bülent Keneş, journalist and editor-in-chief of the Turkish daily newspaper 'Today's Zaman', has been arrested on 9 October 2015 by the police on charges of insulting President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Twitter, an online networking service. The short messages sent on Twitter by the defendant journalist were not quoting any name.

On 24 March 2016, the Istanbul's 44th Court of First Instance sentenced Bülent Keneş in absentia to two years and seven months in prison on charges he insulted Erdoğan.

Following his lawyer's appeal, on 14 October 2015, the Istanbul Criminal Court ordered the release of Bülent Keneş, pending trial.
