Turkey’s Chief Prosecutor Seeks 7.5 Year Jail Term Against 18 Journalists over Siege Picture
18 Turkish journalists working for nine different newspapers have been charged with "making propaganda for a terrorist organisation". The country’s Chief Prosecutor sought a seven and half years jail term against all 18 accused over the publication of a picture of the hostage siege when two militants from the outlawed Marxist Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C) attacked a Turkish prosecutor in his office on 31 March 2015 in Istanbul.
13 Oct 2015: Taking into account the response provided by the authorities to this case, on 13 October 2015, the partner organisations of the Platform declared this case to be "resolved”, concluding that it was no longer an active threat to media freedom.
