Seymour Hazi is a reporter for the opposition newspaper “Azadliq” and a leading anchor for “Azerbaijan Saati” (Azerbaijani Hour) TV program, a cable news channel. He is known for his comments and analysis which are often critical of Azerbaijani authorities. Police arrested him on 29 August 2014, alleging that he had attacked a man at a bus stop. He was charged of hooliganism and sentenced to five years in prison, a sentence considered disproportionate as no aggravating circumstances were established as a justification. Hazi believed authorities had orchestrated the altercation to provide a motive for his arrest. Alert : 1 detention


15 Apr 2016 : On 15 April 2016 the Supreme Court dismissed Seymour Hazi`s cassation appeal.
