Millions of views. The Donetsk Institute of Information produces information content about events in the Eastern and Southern regions of Ukraine with the support of the Council of Europe

The Council of Europe provided the Donetsk Institute of Information with a grant. These funds are intended for the production of the Weekend Digest and information video stories about events in Southern and Eastern regions of Ukraine, which are published on the website, Facebook page and YouTube channel of Donbas News.

The grant was provided as part of the Council of Europe Immediate Actions Package/ Project “Support to Safety of Journalists, Media, and of Access to Information”, including communication strategy for the Prosecutor General’s Office in Ukraine. It aims to decrease the level of Russian propaganda regarding ongoing military actions on the territories of the Eastern and Southern regions of Ukraine including on the temporary occupied territories through dissemination of quality content depicting war reality on these territories; to facilitate the information integration of the residents from the occupied territories of Ukraine, forcibly deported on the territory of Russia and internally displaced Ukrainians into the Ukrainian information space.

As of today, 20 Weekend Digests were released with almost 150 thousand views on YouTube and 1 million 399 thousand on Facebook. The information stories have gained almost 255 thousand views on YouTube and 3 million views on Facebook.

The Donetsk Institute of Information says that the stories about the counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kherson region (over 80,000 views) and the news release about the shelling of Ukrainian cities on October 10, 2022 (about 50,000 views) are particularly popular among viewers. The story "Forced mobilisation in Donbas. Even sick persons are called up for military service" has more than 1,200,000 views on Facebook, 19,000 reactions and more than 3,000 comments.

"Support to Ukrainian media during the war is extremely important, because even those who were able to earn before the full-scale invasion are now losing these last opportunities. And people right now need verified information created according to standards. After all, not only hostile propaganda works, the number of channels on social networks that spread panic and unverified news has increased dramatically. All this has a negative impact on our citizens," Yulia Didenko, editor of “News of Donbas.Video” notes.

The Weekend Digests, created under support of the Council of Europe, are published every Saturday and every Sunday on the "Donbas News" YouTube channel at the link.

The Project “Support to Safety of Journalists, Media, and of Access to Information, including communication strategy for the Prosecutor General’s Office in Ukraine is being implemented under Adjusted Priority Action Plan for Ukraine 2018-2022. It aims to support the Ukrainian media community in addressing current needs and consequences of the Russian aggression and war in Ukraine.
