Start of registration for the First All-Ukrainian Competitions on the European Social Charter

The Council of Europe "Promoting social human rights as a key factor of sustainable democracy in Ukraine" announces the start of registration for the First All-Ukrainian Competition on the European Social Charter (moot court*).

The students of any form and year of study, of bachelor's or master's degree from law schools (law departments, law institutes, universities, academies, etc.) or from faculties/institutes of international relations of higher education institutions of Ukraine can become participants of the moot court.

Each team must consist of two to four people and meet the established criteria. You can use online form to register the team. Application deadline is October 29, 2020.

The competition consists of two rounds:

  • Written round – registered teams must submit two written memoranda: one on behalf of the Applicant (collective complaint) and another one - on behalf of the Respondent State.
  • Oral round - 8 teams selected based on the results of the written round hold oral “public hearings” before the European Committee of Social Rights, represented by the jury members.

The winning team of the First All-Ukrainian European Social Charter Competition will have a chance to attend the World Forum for Democracy or a meeting of the European Committee of Social Rights (Strasbourg, France).

The Council of Europe project "Promoting social human rights as a key factor of sustainable democracy in Ukraine" Project is being implemented since 1 August, 2019 for two years in sphere of the promotion and protection of social human rights, namely persons with disabilities (Article 15 of the European Social Charter (Charter), older persons (Article 23 of the Charter) and children (Articles 7, 15 of the Charter).

*A moot court is a simulated court debate for students in which teams analyze a case in a particular area of law and prepare the plaintiff's and defendant's positions in writing and orally.
