Council of Europe Project “Human rights compliant criminal justice system in Ukraine” conducts the first Steering Committee meeting of its Phase II

Following the start of the Project’s Phase II, the first meeting of the Steering Committee (the SC) of the Council of Europe Project “Human Rights Compliant Criminal Justice System in Ukraine” was held online on 17 February 2021. The meeting was attended by the members of the SC – Project’s main beneficiaries, namely the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, the Supreme Court, the National School of Judges of Ukraine, the Training Centre of Prosecutors of Ukraine and the Verkhovna Rada’s Committee on Law Enforcement.

The main objectives of the event was to discuss plans and further cooperation activities between the Project and its partners. The Project’s work plan for 2021 was approved during the meeting. The SC members reaffirmed their commitment to joint activities planned under the Project Phase II.

The the Project “Human Rights Compliant Criminal Justice System in Ukraine” Phase II will last till the end of 2022 and will focus on two main components to support: 1) further harmonisation of the criminal procedure legislation and its implementation in line with Council of Europe standards and best practices; 2) consolidation of independence, effectiveness and transparency of the public prosecution service in Ukraine.

The Council of Europe Project “Human Rights Compliant Criminal Justice System in Ukraine” is implemented within the framework of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine for 2018-2022.
