Seminar “NGO as a source of IDPs integration” in Severodonetsk, Lugansk region

The seminar “NGO as a source for IDPs integration” was held in Severodonetsk, Luhansk region on the 10th of December, 2016. The event was organized by Lugansk regional youth organization “Start” in cooperation with the Council of Europe Project “Strengthening the Human Rights Protection of Internally Displaced Persons in Ukraine” expert support. This activity aimed at integration and informing active persons and initiative groups among IDPs, as well as representatives of host communities about procedures of registration and development of non-governmental organizations.

During the first session, Mr M. Kurchyn, Senior Specialist of Unit on State Registration of printed media and public organizations, Department of Civil Registration of the Main Territorial Department of Justice in Luhansk region delivered a presentation on the main rules and tips on how to establish and register NGO in Ukraine. The session provoked an intensive discussion and relevant session on questions-answers regarding the statute of documents preparation, filling application for registration and re-registration process, etc.

During the second session, participants got acquainted with the expectations of humanitarian and donor organizations regarding cooperation with NGOs in Luhansk region and possibilities for cooperation. Mr I. Salyeev, Head of UNHCR Field Office in Severodonetsk together with Mr A. Litvinenko, Protection associate from UNHCR in Severodonetsk, encouraged participants to create NGOs that would serve as a tool for IDPs future integration into the host communities.  Sergey Zuev, Head of the NGO “All-Ukrainian organization “Class” which is actively implementing inclusive projects in Luhansk region, shared his practical experience regarding cooperation with donors, fundraising and successful implementation of different regional projects.  

The event participants form Lugansk region (in particular from Severodonetsk, Starobilsk, Lysychansk and Rubizhne towns) learnt different practical steps on how to create or re-register a nongovernmental organisation and as well as establish good network of contacts for future cooperation between each other. Next year the Council of Europe  Project will continue to support similar initiatives aimed at promoting a dialogue and successful integration of internally displaced persons into their host communities in Luhansk region.
