Regional Meeting International Cooperation on Cybercrime and Electronic Evidence

The Cybercrime Programme Office of the Council of Europe, within the framework of Cybecrime@EAP 2018 and iPROCEEDS projects is organising a Regional Meeting on international cooperation on cybercrime and electronic evidence. The activity will take place at Fairmont Grand Hotel, in Kyiv, Ukraine, on 3 – 4 May 2018.

International cooperation under the Budapest Convention on Cybercrime is wide in its scope, covering collection of electronic evidence in any criminal case. Therefore, criminal justice authorities of the states are supposed to explore all available possibilities for cooperation under the Budapest Convention, including efficient and prompt mutual legal assistance, police-to-police exchange of data through expedited channels, cooperation with multinational service providers, as well as consider issues reflecting trans-border nature of cybercrime and the need to access electronic evidence across borders.

Regional format of the projects and the meeting provide additional opportunities for countries to discuss challenges and exchange experience on various matters related to international cooperation. The Regional Meeting will thus allow participants to be updated on actual trends and challenges related to international cooperation, assess the state of compliance with relevant standards and recommendations, and to further plan activities to improve their capacities for cooperation on cybercrime and electronic evidence.

Up to 70 participants from the Eastern Partnership region (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine) and Instrument of Pre-accession (IPA) countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, “the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia” and Turkey) will take part in plenary and workshop sessions at the Regional Meeting led by the team of experts from Croatia, Estonia and the United Kingdom.

Project PGG 2018: Cybercrime@EAP is implemented within the European Union and Council of Europe Partnership for Good Governance in the Eastern Partnership region. The project aims to improve international cooperation and public-private partnership on cybercrime and electronic evidence in the region, and has duration of 12 months and a budget of 0.9 million Euros.

iPROCEEDS – The joint project of the European Union and the Council of Europe on targeting crime proceeds on the Internet in South-eastern Europe and Turkey under the Instrument of Pre-Accession (IPA) covers Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, “the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia”, Turkey and Kosovo*[1] The project has duration of 42 months and a budget of Euro 5.56 million.

Mass media is invited to the opening session on Thursday, 3 May, 09h30 – 10h00.
