April 5 at the Conference Hall of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, was held the National Roundtable "Prospects for Election Legislation Reform". The organizers of the event were the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe and the USAID Program "RADA: Accountability, Responsibility, Democratic Parliamentary Representation"

In the framework of the round table, people's deputies of Ukraine, leading international and domestic experts, representatives of the Central Election Commission and civil society conducted a professional discussion on the issues of reforming electoral legislation for parliamentary elections, as well as discussed the main political and legal factors that should be taken into account when choosing the most optimal option of the electoral system for Ukraine.

Well-known international expert on electoral issues and electoral systems Prof. Andrew Reynolds, author of the guidebook on Election Systems Design, took part in the roundtable,. Mr. Reynolds presented his analysis of the bills on the reform of the electoral system at the elections to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and his position regarding the reform of electoral systems in Ukraine, taking into account international experience. Also, an introductory report was made at the event by the Head of the Department of Regional Cooperation Programs of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe Sergei Kuznetsov who made a presentation on the main recommendations of the Venice Commission and the process of reforming the electoral legislation in Ukraine since 2014, as well as finding the best solutions for improving the electoral legislation and the political environment in Ukraine.
