Back Launch of the conference report "Gender equality and the Istanbul Convention: a decade of action"

Launch of the conference report

In the context of the 10th anniversary of the opening for signature of the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (Istanbul Convention), the Council of Europe in partnership with the German Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth organised an online conference in Berlin in May this year to celebrate ten years of this landmark treaty in the context of other relevant Council of Europe instruments, in particular on preventing and combating sexism.

Today, a conference report is being published that provides a detailed recap of the sessions and keynote speech, including examples of good practices from state parties and highlighting the added value of the Convention. The report also reflects on the impact of the 2019 Council of Europe Recommendation on preventing and combating sexism, which defines sexism and sexist behaviours and describes their impact in public and private life.
