EDVAW Platform side event “Building a common front against the digital dimension of violence against women” on the margins of CSW66

On the occasion of the 66th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW66), the Platform of Independent Expert Mechanisms on Discrimination and Violence against Women (EDVAW Platform) is organizing a side event addressing digital violence against women. This online event will take place on 15 March at 7:30 pm CET (English only).

This high-level side event will present initiatives and strategies to address online and technology facilitated violence against women on the basis of existing international legal instruments. It will draw upon promising research, policies and initiatives from across the world.

The event will be moderated by Claudia Luciani, Director of Human Dignity, Equality and Governance, Council of Europe, and a keynote speech will be made by Ilze Brands Kehris, United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights. The following panelists will feature the event:

  • Ms Iris Luarasi, President of the EDVAW Platform and President of the Group of Experts on Action against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (GREVIO)
  • Janet R. Sallah Njie, Special Rapporteur on Rights of Women in Africa, African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights
  • Zita Gurmai, General Rapporteur on Violence against Women from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe
  • Navina Mutabazi, Program Coordinator at Pollicy (Tanzania)
  • Marcela Huaita, President of the Committee of Experts of the Follow-up Mechanism to the Belém do Pará Convention (MESECVI)
